In caged bird Maya Angelou describes a bird with clipped wings. It's feet have been tied, and it has been placed in a cage that prevents it from flying away. Despite it fears, the caged bird continues to fly. Tge poem describes the joy that a free bird takes in soaring the sky.
The central idea of the poem is to show how her race was treated and that they tried to be free. The free bird in this poem symbolized a black person free from the literal and metophorical restraints of racism,symbolised by the caged birds cage.
