Week XI assignment

''I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings'' by Maya Angelou.

Reading the book written by Maya Angelou gives me different emotions because the author has included different topics in this book.  The books talks about the story of Maya and her older brother Bailey and the time they were growing up. While I was reading the first pages I thought that their parents had abandon them and were living with their grandmother who they call 'Momma'.
They travel alone to the way to go to the grandmothers house and they are labeled like baggage.
Firstly the things were going  in routine until one day their father goes to their house and says that he will take the children to their mother so they can meet her and this  is the first  turning point of the story. During the time that Maya stays with her mother she get rapped by her mothers boyfriend Mr.Freeman. This is  bad experience for her because Mr.Freeman tells her that if she tells her mother what happens he will kill her brother and later the truth is discovered and he ends up in jail.
In my opinion the main themes of the book are racism, identity and rape.
What shocked me the most was the rape that happens to Maya in the age of 8. She is just a child and a men who just can not control his needs and decides to rape a child is not a man.
I liked this book because some topics that are included in the book we face in the nowadays society and sometimes it is very hard to act in the good of society.
