This story is written by Charlotte Perkins Stetson in the 19th century.
As we know on that century the woman has no rights at all, they are depended by their husband. I read the story and on the first point of view it treats the illness of a woman who we don't know her name because during the story it is not mentioned. She suffers from nervous depression because her husband told her and she believed it. In my opinion this story portrays the power that mans have over woman. The insanity of the narrator also protests the medical, professional and societal oppression against women on that time. This means that the woman in our story believed what her husband was saying to her because she thought that he loved her and wanted her to be cured. As the doctors were considered to be acting in the best of their mind, women were depicted as mentally weak and fragile human being. Throughout the story John- her husband, offers many suggestions to help her to get better such as exercising, working or socializing with the outside world. Her ideas are dismissed immediately when she is trying to offer ideas about her own condition. Also, I think that even if the yellow is a color of happiness she isn't happy enough or maybe she is happy in her world inside the house where she wants to go for a walk in the garden etc. She might have nervous depression but the ways that her husband is using to cure her it is not working because she is not getting better but worse.
